Privacy Policy
Who we are
TruRex is a social discovery and recommendations platform built on trust. We are operated by TruRex Pty Ltd (ACN693 758 271), incorporated in New South Wales, Australia. When we say “TruRex,” “we,” “us,” or “our” in this policy, we mean TruRex Pty Ltd.
If you have questions about this policy or how we handle your data, you can reach us at privacy@trurex.com.
What this policy covers
This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, how we use and protect it, and what rights you have in relation to it. It applies to the TruRex app, our website (trurex.com), and any related services.
Information you give us directly
When you create a TruRex account, we collect your name, email address, and a password. You may also choose to add a profile photo, a short bio, and your location (city or suburb level). This is optional.
When you share a Rex, we collect the content of your recommendation: the category, your ratings, your written review, any tags you select, and any photos you upload. Rex are attributed to your account and visible to people in your Circles or, depending on your settings, more broadly within TruRex.
If you contact us directly (for support, feedback, or otherwise), we collect the content of that communication.
Information we collect automatically
When you use the TruRex app, we collect certain technical information automatically. This includes your device type and operating system, app version, IP address, and usage data (such as which features you use, how long you spend in the app, and error logs). We use this information to keep the app running smoothly and to improve the product.
We do not use cookies in the traditional web sense within the app, but our website may use cookies for basic analytics. You can manage these through your browser settings.
Information from third parties
If you sign in using a third-party service (such as Apple or Google), we receive basic profile information from that service as permitted by your account settings there. We do not receive your password.
Why we collect it and how we use it
We use your information to:
• Create and maintain your TruRex account
• Display your Rex and profile to people in your Circles
• Send you transactional emails (account confirmation, password reset, account status notifications)
• Respond to your support requests
• Improve and debug the app
• Comply with legal obligations
We do not sell your personal information. Ever. That is actually the whole point of TruRex.
We may use aggregated, de-identified data (data that cannot identify you) for product analytics and research.
Who we share your information with
We share your information only in the following circumstances:
Service providers
We work with a small number of third-party providers who help us operate TruRex. These currently include Supabase (database and file storage infrastructure) and transactional email providers. These providers process your data only on our instructions and are not permitted to use it for their own purposes.
Legal requirements
We may disclose your information if required to do so by law, or if we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to comply with a legal obligation, protect the safety of our users, or protect TruRex’s legal rights.
Business transfers
If TruRex is acquired, merged, or its assets transferred, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you before this happens and you will have the option to delete your account.
We do not share your personal information with advertisers. TruRex is an ad-free platform.
Where your data is stored
TruRex uses Supabase infrastructure, which may store data in servers located outside Australia. Where this occurs, we take steps to ensure that your data is protected to a standard consistent with the Australian Privacy Principles. If you are located in the European Economic Area, your data may also be transferred internationally, and we ensure appropriate safeguards are in place.
How long we keep your data
You're in control of your data. If you decide TruRex isn't for you, you can delete your account at any time by going to Edit Profile in the app and selecting Delete Account.
Your personal information will be permanently and automatically deleted from our systems within 90 days of your request, and no follow-up is needed on your end.
Rex you have shared may remain visible to other users in aggregated or cached form for a short period following deletion while systems update.
Minimum age
TruRex is intended for users aged 16 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe a person under 16 has created an account, please contact us at privacy@trurex.com and we will take steps to remove their account and data.
Australian residents should also be aware that TruRex complies with the Social Media Minimum Age Act (effective December 2025).
Your rights
Under the Australian Privacy Act, you have the right to:
• Access the personal information we hold about you
• Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete information
• Make a complaint if you believe we have mishandled your data
You can exercise these rights by contacting us at privacy@trurex.com. We will respond within 30 days.
If you are located in the European Economic Area or the UK, you may have additional rights under GDPR, including the right to erasure, restriction of processing, and data portability. Contact us and we will assist.
To delete your account and associated data, go to Settings within the TruRex app and select Delete Account.
Security
We take data security seriously. We use industry-standard measures to protect your information, including encrypted data transmission (TLS), secure cloud infrastructure, and access controls. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we work to protect your data and will notify you in the event of a breach that affects your personal information, as required by Australian law.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you via email or an in-app notice before the changes take effect. The date at the top of this policy reflects the most recent update.
